Knowledge of or experience with commercial insurance and claims handling in insurance lines, such as general liability, automobile liability, automobile physical damage and property, is required. Work requires minimum of 5 years of experience in a claims, insurance, risk management or related setting to become knowledgeable of accepted practices involved in monitoring and managing insurance claims. Professional certifications such as AIC, ARM and/or CPCU are desirable. Work requires knowledge generally acquired through a bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, or a directly related field. Prepare reports and analyses highlighting claim trends, making appropriate recommendations or conclusions.Ĭollaborate in the development of tools, templates, formal procedures and other documentation to assist the Duke community in assessing and managing risk. Provide timely and correct loss runs to management, auditors, actuaries, brokers and insurers as appropriate. Manage and maintain accurate claim data bases. Monitor and evaluate communications from Duke and community resources to identify and address potential risks, incidents or outcomes. Provide Waivers of Insurance requirements for vendors when appropriate. Monitor Duke's vendor relationships regarding risk management issues and analyze Outside Service Agreements and external contractors for compliance with Duke's standards. Monitor the receipt of insurance binders and confirm all new and renewal insurance policies were issued based upon the brokers' and insurer's proposal and subsequent negotiations. Review and verify any changes in risk profiles and information that could affect coverage needs. Act as liaison for Duke personnel and departments as necessary to provide accurate and current risk details. Compile and provide complete and accurate insurance applications and supporting documentation for all lines of coverage. Identify, develop and maintain documentation of campus assets and exposures to loss. Support the insurance underwriting process. Plan, coordinate and perform mandatory Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) claim reporting. Take appropriate corrective actions after consultation with the Director and Assistant Director. Analyze driving incidents and note and report on trends when applicable. Implement remedial follow up for employees and departments as needed. Manage all subrogation activities related to claims to ensure establishment and protection of Duke's right to recover claim expenses when appropriate.Īnalyze all automobile incidents or claims involving Duke drivers or vehicles for violations of Duke's Vehicle Safety Policy. Monitor claims activity for erosion of deductibles or retentions in order to maximize recovery to Duke. Provide adequate and timely notice of all incidents involving Duke assets or stakeholders to appropriate insurance carriers. Serve as primary point-of-contact with insurers. Provide assistance to University Counsel's Office on litigated claims. Investigate, negotiate, and settle or deny General Liability, Auto Liability, Directors and Officers and Complex Property Claims within authority level granted by Assistant Director. This position will regularly exercise independent judgment and discretion in work directly related to management policies or department business operations.
